Shallot Aphid
Overview
Shallot aphid is a sap-feeding aphid associated mainly with allium crops including shallots, onions and related species. Colonies develop on foliage and can reduce plant vigour through direct feeding and contamination with honeydew.

- Clusters of aphids on leaves
- Distorted or curled foliage
- Sticky honeydew deposits
- Reduced plant vigour
- Secondary sooty mould growth
Conditions favouring outbreaks
- Mild temperatures
- Protected cropping
- Soft nitrogen-rich growth
- Poor airflow
