Phytoseiulus persimilis

Phytoseiulus persimilis

Type

Predatory mite

Target pests

Best use

Curative specialist predator for rapid spider mite knockdown.

Notes

Performs best with sufficient humidity and early release.

IPM positioning

Highly curative specialist predator for spider mite; requires active infestation.

Best deployment strategy

  • Use curatively at first sign of spider mite (do not wait for heavy webbing).
  • Place onto infested plants and surrounding buffer zones to prevent spread.
  • Follow with supportive predators (Amblyseius spp.) for longer-term stability if needed.

Compatibility notes

  • Works well with: supportive predatory mites (Amblyseius Swirskii, Amblyseius Cucumeris) where longer-term stability is needed.
  • Note: as a specialist, performance drops quickly once spider mite prey is exhausted (may require follow-up strategy).

Environmental preferences

  • Performs strongly in moderate to warm, humid conditions.
  • Hot/dry conditions can reduce performance; maintaining suitable humidity improves control.
