Root Aphid
Soil-dwelling aphids feeding on roots causing wilting, yellowing and poor nutrient uptake.
Root aphids (Pemphigus spp. and related genera) live on or near plant roots, often mistaken for fungus gnat larvae or root mealybugs. They disrupt nutrient and water uptake, causing wilting, stunting and pale foliage. Outbreaks increase under warm, moist conditions. Biological control includes entomopathogenic fungi (e.g., Beauveria), predatory rove beetles (Dalotia), and soil-dwelling nematodes such as Steinernema feltiae. Cultural hygiene and removal of contaminated compost are essential.
