It depends on the beneficial insect and whether there’s enough food for them.

Many beneficial insects will stay if they can find prey, pollen, nectar or suitable shelter. If there’s nothing to eat, they’re much more likely to move on in search of food.

Some insects, like ladybirds and lacewings, can fly well and may leave quite quickly. Others, such as many predatory mites, don’t fly at all and tend to stay on the plants where they’re released.

One of the best ways to keep beneficial insects around is to make your garden welcoming by growing a variety of flowering plants, avoiding broad-spectrum insecticides and providing plenty of habitat.
